Honestly, it depends on the tree. How tall and wide it is, what is sitting underneath it, how close it is to your house or a power line, whether a truck or a lift can get to it, and whether you want the stump and debris gone. A small backyard tree with clear access and a big oak leaning over a bedroom are not the same job. Anyone who gives you a firm price over the phone without seeing it is guessing, and that guess usually goes up once they pull into your driveway.

Usually one of three reasons. They are not carrying insurance, which means the risk shifts to you. Or they plan to drop the tree instead of lowering it on ropes, which is faster for them and much harder on your yard. Or the price does not actually include hauling the debris and grinding the stump. Ask all three questions on every quote you get, and the numbers usually get a lot closer together.

Every policy is different, but the usual pattern is this. Insurers tend to pay when a tree hits something they cover, like your house or your garage, and tend not to pay when a tree just falls in the yard. Getting the part off your house is often treated differently from removing the rest of the tree. Regular work is usually scheduled within the week. Emergencies go to the front of the line. After a big storm every tree company in the area is backed up for days, so calling early really does make a difference.

For the estimate it helps, because most of the good questions come up while you are standing under the tree with us. For the work itself, not necessarily, as long as we can get in and we already agreed on the scope in writing.

Light rain is usually fine. Lightning, high wind, or ground so soft the equipment would rut it are all reasons we will move your job. And we will call you about it, not just fail to show up.

Protecting the ground is part of the plan from the start. Plywood and mats go down wherever equipment drives, and we lower wood on ropes instead of dropping it when the ground is soft. Ruts and cracked pavers are the number one complaint people have about tree companies, and almost all of it is avoidable.

Yes, and it is included in the price, not an add on. Wood, limbs and chips leave the same day, unless you asked us to leave rounds for firewood or chips for mulch, which costs you nothing extra. We walk the property with you before the trucks pull out.

Often, yes, and we will tell you if that is the case. Taking out the deadwood, reducing the crown, or cabling a heavy fork solves a lot of situations that look like removals from the ground. Figuring out which one you have is exactly what a certified arborist is for.

No. Topping forces out weak, fast growing shoots, and those are the first limbs to break off in the next storm. If you want the canopy pulled back off your house, the right way is to cut back to a branch that can take over. More about trimming.

Call the power company, not us, and keep everybody well back. Anything touching a live line is theirs to deal with. Once the line is handled, we can take care of the tree.

It depends on where you are and what kind of tree it is. The rules inside Gainesville city limits are not the same as unincorporated Alachua County, and the smaller towns are different again. Tree type and trunk size usually matter. We will tell you what we know about your situation, but getting the permit is the property owner's responsibility.

Generally, if the trunk straddles the line the tree belongs to both of you, and removing it is a conversation with your neighbor rather than a decision either of you gets to make alone. Branches hanging over your side are usually yours to trim back to the line, within reason and without killing the tree.
