Tree Removal in Gainesville, FL

Dangerous trees, trees hanging over your house, and trees with nowhere safe to fall. We take them apart in pieces and lower them to the ground, so your yard stays in one piece.

The short version

We only take a tree down when it really needs to go.

A lot of trees that look scary are perfectly sound, and a lot of trees that look healthy are hollow at the base. A certified arborist can tell the difference. That is why our first visit is a real inspection and not a sales call. If your tree can be saved with pruning or a cable, we will tell you that instead.

When the tree does have to come down, the real question is how we get it down without taking anything else with it. A tree standing alone in a pasture can be dropped in one piece. A water oak leaning over your bedroom cannot, and anyone who tells you otherwise should not be on your property.

Signs your tree probably has to come down

  • It has started leaning in the last year, especially if the soil is lifting or cracking at the base
  • Big dead limbs hanging over your roof, your driveway, or anywhere people walk
  • Mushrooms growing on the trunk, or soft, crumbly wood where the trunk meets the ground
  • The trunk has split, or a big fork in the tree has cracked
  • Roots are lifting your foundation, your pool deck or your septic drain field
  • A storm took out more than about half the branches

How it works

How we take down a tree in a tight spot

01

We look at it first

A certified arborist checks the tree, the lean, what is underneath it and how we can reach it. That decides the method, the equipment and the price.

02

We protect your property

Plywood and ground mats go down over driveways, septic fields and soft lawn anywhere equipment or logs have to travel.

03

We take it apart from the top

A climber or a bucket lift works down from the top, cutting the tree into pieces small enough to control.

04

We lower every piece on a rope

Each piece comes down on a rope into a spot we picked in advance. Nothing gets dropped. This is the step that saves your pool, your fence and your roof.

05

We bring a crane when we need one

On very large trees, or trees with nowhere to land anything, a crane lifts whole sections up over your house and sets them down in the street.

06

We clean up before we leave

Wood, limbs and chips go the same day, and we walk the property with you before the trucks pull out.

Questions

Questions people ask us about this

How much does tree removal cost?

It comes down to how tall and wide the tree is, what is sitting underneath it, how close it is to your house or a power line, whether we can get equipment to it, and whether you want the stump and debris gone. A small backyard tree we can drive right up to and a big oak leaning over your roof are nowhere near the same job. That is why we come look first, and why any company quoting you over the phone without seeing it is guessing.

Do you take the stump too?

We can, and we price it separately, because not everyone wants it and some people want the stump left at a certain height. Tell us what you plan to do with the spot and we will grind it to match. More about stump grinding.

What happens to all the wood?

It leaves with us unless you tell us otherwise. Want rounds left for firewood, or chips left for mulch? Say so at the estimate and we will stack them wherever you want. Costs you nothing extra.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree?

Depends where you are, what kind of tree it is, and how big it is. The rules are different inside Gainesville city limits than in unincorporated Alachua County, and different again in the smaller towns. We will tell you what we know about your situation, but the permit is the property owner's responsibility. For a dangerous tree at a house it is usually pretty simple.

Will you tear up my lawn?

Protecting the ground is part of the plan, not something we think about afterward. Mats and plywood spread out the weight of the equipment, and we lower wood on ropes instead of dropping it where the ground is soft. Ruts and cracked pavers are the most common complaint people have about tree companies, and almost all of it is avoidable.
